Jalandhar: The Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) has strongly condemned the government conspiracy to keep renowned intellectuals and human rights activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Miran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima, Shifa-ur-Rehman and Khalid Saifi in jail without trial and the court verdict depriving them of their fundamental right to be released on bail.
In a statement issued here, the party's Chairman Comrade K. Gangatharan and General Secretary Comrade Mangat Ram Pasla have said that the above-mentioned intellectuals, who have been jailed on the false and utterly ridiculous charges of inciting riots, are already serving the punishment of being staunch opponents of the divisive ideology of the RSS and BJP and the anti-people, anti-national policies of the Modi government. Along with this, they are also being given high punishment for belonging to the minority Muslim community.
Com. Gangadharan and Com. Pasla said that the biased attitude being adopted by the courts towards these innocent citizens also exposes the double standards of the judicial system. Both the leaders have said that the Supreme Court has repeatedly commented that getting bail is a fundamental right of every citizen, but still this is being ignored in the case of Umar Khalid and others. They said that it is a matter of great surprise that these same courts adopt an extremely lenient attitude towards murderers, rapists, rioters and perpetrators of heinous crimes against women, Dalits, tribals and other poor people.
Comrade Gangadharan and Pasla have said that it is extremely unfortunate that the courts have ignored the fact that innumerable accused belonging to the minority community have been acquitted after being kept in the dark cells of jails for decades as a result of being nominated under numerous fake cases registered by the police. The party leaders have demanded the immediate release of the said activists to restore the dignity of the judicial system.
